Huawei Ascend P6 unveiled as world’s slimmest smartphone

A mid-range handset of that might not rival the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S4 and the HTC One, the Huawei Ascend P6 lines up at just 6.18mm thick and sports Google’s Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean OS at its core.

Unveiling the new streamline handset, Huawei CEO Richard Yu described the phone as “the embodiment of elegance but with edge.” He added: “The six in P6 is more than a name, it is the thickness of the device. It is very, very difficult to do a smartphone this thin.”

Huawei Ascend P6 Features

Aside from taking the mantle as the world’s slimmest smartphone, the super skinny Huawei Ascend P6 features list sees a raft of premium components wrapped up within the aforementioned sleek, stylish shell.

Running the latest iteration of the company’s Emotion UI atop Android 4.2.2, the Ascend P6 is set to offer a familiar user experience, with a 1.5GHz quad-core processor helping ensure the device is not only the slimmest, but one of the fastest on the market.

Pairing these impressive foundations with 2GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage, expandable via microSD, the Huawei Ascend P6 specs sheet is further enhanced by an 8-megapixel rear-mounted camera alongside a second, 5-megapixel forward-facing snapper.

Further bolstering this camera collection, the 8-megapixel rear-mounted camera is partnered by an f/2.0 aperture and an impressive 4cm macro view length. On top of this an IMAGESmart ENGINE and auto scene recognition combine to offer better photographic results.

With a 2,000mAh Lithium-Ion battery keeping things chugging along, the slimline Huawei Ascend P6 boasts a sleek, metal finish.

Discussing the handset’s form factor, Nick Woodley, Huawei’s Lead Designer for the company’s London Design Office stated: “With the P6 we truly believe we have achieved world class design.”

The Huawei Ascend P6 is set to be made available in a trio of colour options, with black and silver models lining up alongside a pink option.

Samsung ATIV Tab 3 unveiled as world’s thinnest Windows 8 tablet

Samsung has expanded its tablet range with the Samsung ATIV Tab 3 lining up as the world’s thinnest Windows 8 tablet.

Cut from the same cloth as the company’s Android range of Samsung Galaxy Tab offerings, the ATIV Tab 3 pairs a sleek form factor with Microsoft’s OS and a range of premium innards. The Microsoft Surface Pro rival lines up at just 8.2mm thick and has been announced alongside the convertible Samsung ATIV Q.

“These innovative devices have been designed with busy people in mind, and the adaptability they offer is better suited to busy lives than any tablet on the market,” Simon Stanford, Vice President of IT & Mobile Division for Samsung Electronics UK & Ireland said of the two ATIV Tab 3 and ATIV Q.

Samsung ATIV Tab 3 Features

More than just a super skinny Windows 8 device, the Samsung ATIV Tab 3 plays host to a vast array of
premium components, kicked off with the tablet’s 10.1-inch display. Packing a 1366 x 766p resolution, the touchscreen offering also supports a 1024 reaction point digitiser compatible with the Samsung S-Pen stylus which comes with the tablet.

Weighing in at just 550g, the Samsung ATIV Tab 3 is a svelte offering, with the arrival of Samsung S Note 2.0 providing improved input options and more detailed handwriting recognition over past S-Pen hosting tablets and convertibles.

Powered by an Intel ATOM Z2760 processor, the Samsung ATIV Tab 3 specs sheet is further enhanced by 2GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. As is now customary, the ATIV Tab 3 boasts cameras both front and rear, with the integrated snappers able to shoot video at 720p.

With a claimed 10 hour battery life, the Samsung ATIV Tab 3, which is available in white, sees the usual Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity options further enhanced by a single micro USB 2.0 connection alongside microHDMI and microSD ports.

Samsung ATIV Tab 3 Release Date and Price

LG Intros World’s Slimmest Full HD Screen with 5 2″ Display 2 2mm Thickness

While Samsung is still trying hard to commercialize the flexible Lcd displays, it now seems that LG will soon be coming up with the World’s Thinnest 1080p LCD Screen which comes at just 2.2mm thickness and has 5.2 inches of Screen Size. This thinnest Lcd from LG has been officially showcased and comes with the 2.3mm of Bezel which is a truly commendable job. Though the bezel on the device will be much greater than the 2.3mm, we can say that it will have one of the thinnest bezel ever. While the phones are getting thinner and thinner, it’s difficult to accommodate the larger battery in these devices.

LG Electronics calls this tech being used behind the Lcd as the Advanced One Glass Solution (OGS) which will be realized commercially very soon in its next generation of devices which will be available as soon this December 2013. The technology behind this involves the insertion of Dual flexible printed circuits between the LCD Panel and the touch film which results in 30% fewer lines on the Panel. Every pixel is RGB, and the Lcd can output 535 nits of brightness which is surprisingly higher than any 1080p Screen in the market which can currently produce.

We are also hearing the rumours that soon this display will be realized in the Optimus G2 smartphone which will be releasing very soon. By utilizing 1,080X1,920 pixels consisting of Red, Green, Blue (RGB) sub-pixels, the panel is a true Full HD display. Finally, measuring contrast in real-life surroundings with Ambient Contrast Ratio results in a reading of 3.74:1 based on 10,000 lux, which confirms the perfect performance even in Bright sunlight conditions.
