At Sprints Press Conference, in Chicago, United States this morning, the South Korean phone maker has announced a new iteration of Galaxy S5 smartphone with the Stateside telecommunication and wireless network provider, Sprint Corporation, named as the new Samsung Galaxy S5 Sport. Headlined as, "Stay on top of your game with a smartphone built for the athletic lifestyle".
The new handset is said to be for the dedicated athletes and sportsmen in town, with keeping fitness in mind. Let us remind you that, this is reportedly a different version of Samsung Galaxy S5 Active that was announced for AT&T, the past month. The new phone from Sprint and Samsung will come with IP67-certification rating on board to handle dust and water resistance during any kind of outdoor workout activity. The phone can explore up to one meter deep in water for 30 minutes of time.
In term of the hardware, Samsung seems to have tweaked their design of the Galaxy S5 Sport smartphone, making it almost as thicker as the Galaxy S5 Active, but in a different way, with a textured body, that will basically increase the grip when holding the handset. There is also the three hardware physical buttons on the front of the smartphone like the GS5 Active, that will be easier to navigate when used under water or at active conditions. The newly unveiled phone will be measured at 144 x 74 x 8.9 millimeters in dimensions and weighs slightly less than their Active smartphone at only 158 grams, where else AT&T Samsung Galaxy S5 Active weighed 170 grams on mass. Unfortunately, the new release from Samsung is not said to feature Military-specifications 810G, as it did earlier.
"We continually innovate to provide our customers with new products that can improve their lives. Previously, Sprint brought together Harman Kardon, HTC and Spotify to redefine how music should sound on the modern smartphone. Today, Sprint joins leading innovators in Samsung, Under Armour and MapMyFitness to drive technology advances for fitness, health and wellness," said Dan Hesse, Sprint Chief Executive Officer.
The Galaxy S5 will boot with on board fitness applications like the new MapMyFitness, developed by Under Armour, Inc. which is an American sports clothing and accessories company. The app will actually use your smartphones GPS to track all the users fitness activities and stores the details with information like duration, distance, speed, calories burned and even the route traveled on a new interactive map setup. There is another fitness app from Sprint, called the Sprint Fit Live, that "delivers instant access to favorite health and activity apps from the active wallpaper or the full screen experience to tailor workouts, music and healthy living content to fitness interests and routine". Also it includes Samsungs proprietary features like, Activity Zone, S Health, Multi Window, Quick Connect and Samsungs security attribute, KNOX. On the back we also find the heart rate sensor fitted aside the LED flash light under the main camera lens, like other Galaxy S5 models, announced lately.
For the internal specification listing, the GS5 Sport will sport a Quad-Core 2.5GHz Qualcomm MSM8974AB Snapdragon 801 processor, Adreno 330 Graphics Processing Unit, 5.1-inches Full High Definition Super AMOLED screen panel of 1080 x 1920 resolution display, 16 gigabytes of expandable internal storage and two gigabytes of Random Access Memory, 16 megapixels primary shooter on the back with LED flash light, that can shoot Full HD 1080p videos at 30 frames-per-second and a two megapixels front facer. The device have Bluetooth 4.0, NFC and 4G LTE network capabilities that support Sprint Spark connections, a 2,800mAh powered battery and running Androids version 4.4.2 KitKat over Samsungs TouchWiz User Interface.
The smartphone will be up for sales in two new colors, Electric Blue and Cherry Red, where Sprint will sell the device from 25th of July on a two year contract at $27.09 monthly, for free upfront cost.
